background
Today the cargo space is used for air freight cargo and luggage. Although, partly because people are flying with less luggage, this space is often not used fully. Airlines would like to use this space for both enhancing the passenger experience and utilizing the cargo space for revenue.
challenge
This was a team project where people from different classes and programs came together and collaborated. We got a brief from Airbus to look into future ways of using the cargo space in airplanes. In our team, coming from different backgrounds, it was very exciting to see what we could create from this.
my role
During the first period of this project I put a lot of focus into research and ideation. In the later part I focused on the photoshop visualizations for the Haptic Playroom- the module oriented to children and younger teenagers.

research
the cargo space
interviewing and compiling information
" Kids can´t sit still for very long during flights. It would be nice with a space for them to move"
"Something physical, engaging, interactive, maybe games. Something the kids can touch"
[ Insight! ]
Traveling with kids is a big problem area
Kids will feel restless spending a lot of time not being able to move around
Other passengers can get disturbed by restless kids being loud
Staff spending a lot of time in loud environments will be stressed

concept development
study visits to different playgrounds
According to our observations and statements by the staff at the different playgrounds, areas where the kids could play freely using their imagination were most popular. For example blocks that could be built into different things.

final concept
why wait until landing?
In this concept the lower deck is an experience floor for families consisting of four different modules, with different activities for all ages, that can be combined in multiple ways. Felicia Evaldsson, Fredrik Östlund and I visualized the Haptic Playroom, the module oriented to children and younger teenagers. The module will with its interactive playing area encourage kids to explore.

play and explore the interactive surroundings
The Haptic Playroom is meant for families and children of many different ages and has many different levels of interaction the kids can find and explore.

play with interactive cubes
Pick up a digital cube and place it anywhere in the Haptic Playroom and see how different things appear inside of the cube. After that, place cubes on top of each other and develop your buildings and creations!
